In its first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season, The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team doubled up Ohio Wesleyan University 16-8 on Wednesday evening in Delaware, Ohio.

Wooster (5-3, 1-0 NCAC), the two-time defending conference champions, used a 10-goal run spanning the end of the first half and beginning of the second to break the game open. The Scots were ahead 5-3 with less than six minutes before halftime when they had a four-goal explosion. Katie Smart keyed that run with one goal and two assists during a 1:40 stretch.

The momentum stayed on Wooster's side early in the second, as it scored twice in the first 3:30 and six times within 13 minutes. Most impressive, five different Scots accounted for those six goals, with Nina Dine the only double scorer and Jaqueline Wallat's tally giving them a 15-3 cushion.

Ohio Wesleyan (2-8, 0-3 NCAC) finished on a 5-1 run.

Wooster's top scorer, Madison Carey, had another big game as she accounted for seven points coming on four goals and three assists. Carey has piled up 26 points (17 goals, 9 assists) over the last four games (all Scot wins), compared to 14 during the first four.

Dine also picked up a hat trick Wednesday, while Smart wound up with two goals, both on free-position shots, and two assists. Also of note, Eileen Barrer netted a pair of goals and Shawna Ferris was credited with eight saves before being pulled late.

Wooster continues conference play Saturday when Wittenberg University (6-2, 1-1 NCAC) comes to town for a 2 p.m. match-up.
