WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster went on an impressive 6-1 scoring run midway through the game, which included several exciting goals, and eventually notched its sixth-straight win, a convincing 15-9 victory over Carthage College on Sunday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Carthage (5-6), which had trailed 4-1 early on, drew within 5-3 when Natalie Ceis scored with 12:11 remaining before halftime. Then over the final 10 minutes of the half, and the first couple minutes after the break, Wooster (7-3) strung together a 6-1 run which included some highlight-reel goals to take a commanding 11-4 lead.

Clare Nelson-Johnson got the scoring-spurt started with a diving, off-balance goal, where she hauled in a pass from Eileen Barrer that was out in front of her and shot while propelling herself forward to beat the 'keeper. Just 16 seconds later, Wooster added another score, this time as Cassie Greenbaum won the draw control and sprinted through several Carthage defenders before locating a cutting Madison Carey who fired in the goal.

The Scots added another tally with 3:43 remaining before halftime, as Katie Smart used a pin-point quick flick to get the ball to Carey, and then the latter collected and flipped in the goal all in one motion to put Wooster ahead 9-4 at the break.

Carthage did put together some mini-runs of its own, and eventually pulled within four goals (13-9) late, but Wooster held Carthage at bay and added a pair of man-up goals during the game's final 0:37 which led to its 15-9 win margin.

Leading Wooster statistically was Carey, who recorded six points (5 goals, 1 assist) to push her season total above the 50-point plateau (51 points). Nelson-Johnson (4 goals) and Barrer (1 goal, 3 assists) added four points each, and Greenbaum scored twice, which included an impressive goal where she sprinted down field unaccounted for and hauled in and fired a pass from Megan Piemonte who was rolling the crease.

Shawna Ferris had a nice outing in goal, as she made several one-on-one saves against Carthage attackers, and finished with 11 saves in all. Her counterpart was Ali Gorman, who managed 13 saves while fending off 35 shots from Wooster.

Also noteworthy, Ceis led Carthage with four points on three goals and an assist.

The Scots will look to make it seven in a row Wednesday when they visit Oberlin College (3-3, 0-1) at 4:30.
