Fueled by Madison Carey's career-best outing, The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team turned a closely contested game (9-5) into a blowout by scoring eight goals during a 12:06 span early in the second half to down Oberlin College 19-7 in North Coast Athletic Conference action Wednesday at Oberlin, Ohio.

The Scots (8-3, 3-0 NCAC) led 4-1 just over six minutes into the action, as Carey scored an early hat trick and Katie Smart added her own goal to put Wooster in control early. Oberlin (3-5, 0-3 NCAC) quickly pulled within 4-2, but then the Scots went back to work, as Cassie Greenbaum, Clare Nelson-Johnson, Jaqueline Wallat, Eliza Perry, and Eileen Barrer each scored in a row, with three of the goals coming on assists by Carey, to give Wooster a sudden 9-2 cushion.

With less than nine minutes remaining until the break, the Yeowomen crept back by scoring three-consecutive goals, two by Grace Amber, and trailed only 9-5 at halftime.

The second stanza was all Wooster, though, as it opened up with eight goals in 12 minutes to leave Oberlin stunned. The Scots, which held just a slight 13-12 edge in shot attempts during the first half, led by a 13-4 margin in the second half, with 10 of those shots finding the back of the net.

Carey highlighted the onslaught with a career-high 11-point outing, which came on career-bests in goals (6) and assists (5).

Also standing out on the stat sheet were Smart (3 goals, 2 assists) and Barrer (4 goals), while goalkeeper Shawna Ferris made eight saves and allowed just six goals while playing 52:24.

The Scots will attempt to win their eighth-straight contest this Saturday when they host Kenyon College (7-5, 1-2 NCAC) in a rematch of last year's NCAC championship and first-round NCAA Tournament game.
