WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster appeared to be in the driver's seat, leading by six goals with around 20 minutes remaining in regulation, but Allegheny College closed out the game on a 10-2 scoring run to shock the Fighting Scots, 13-11, in North Coast Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening at John P. Papp Stadium.
Things were going Wooster's (0-4, 0-1 NCAC) way in the early goings, as it built a 3-0 lead 6:30 into the game, which became a 6-2 advantage at the halftime break.
The Scots then scored the first two goals of the second half, both coming from Eliza Perry just 16 seconds apart, which made it a six-goal game at 8-2. The Gators (10-0, 2-0 NCAC) snuck in a goal shortly after to pull within five (8-3), but Ashley Parry put Wooster back up six (9-3) with a free-position shot that beat the 'keeper.
With Wooster seemingly in control, Allegheny scored two quick goals during a 21-second spurt to cut its deficit to 9-5. The Gators were just getting started, though, as they scored 10 of the game's last 12 goals, including two during the final 5:49 of play, which turned an 11-11 tie into a 13-11 victory.
Perry did her part in the setback, scoring a hat trick and passing out three assists, while Ellie Hudson-Heck and Abby Szlachta also chipped in three goals apiece. Also noteworthy was Cassie Greenbaum with a goal and an assist, Alison Schlothauer with four caused turnovers and four groundballs, and Molly Sennett with three caused turnovers and six groundballs.
Isabel Perman made 10 saves in goal, with seven coming during the first half.
Allegheny was led by Kelsey Rodgers' five goals, while McKenzie Bell impressively dished out seven helpers.
The Scots will look to put an end to their skid with a win at Baldwin Wallace University (8-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
