WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored seven goals in the opening 10:37 which was more than enough cushion to cruise past second-year program Hiram College on Saturday in a dominant 20-1 victory in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt at a sunny John P. Papp Stadium.
The Fighting Scots (1-5, 1-1 NCAC) put their rough start to the season behind them in this one, as 10 different players pumped in goals, including Shelby Stone, who scored the first goal of the game just 30 seconds into the action. Stone went onto score four times while adding two assists, on her way to a season-high six-point outing.
Ashley Parry scored the team's second goal, which was her only tally of the afternoon, but she stood out by winning four draw controls as part of Wooster's 15-7 advantage in that category.
Then Ellie Hudson-Heck beat the 'keeper next, which really opened the flood gates, as Wooster scored three goals during a 1:02 spurt to go up 5-0, and then added two more moments later to make it 7-0 in the early goings.
Hiram (3-7, 0-2 NCAC) broke up the run momentarily with its lone goal of the game, but the Scots closed out the half with another seven straight goals, with Heather Honn's score with nine seconds remaining on the clock giving Wooster a 14-1 lead at the break.
Wooster took its foot off the gas in the second half, but Jamie Wren-Jarvis chipped in her first goal of the season to highlight the Scots' six-goal stanza.
Overall, Stone (4 goals, 2 assists) and Eliza Perry (1 goal, 5 assists) led the way with six points each, while Honn (3 goals), Hudson-Heck (3 goals, 2 assists), and Alison Schlothauer (3 goals) each added hat tricks. For Honn, it marked the first three-goal game of her young career.
Defensively, Abby Szlachta caused four turnovers and goalkeeper Isabel Perman made three saves.
Wooster will look to carry over its momentum from this one when it hosts Wittenberg University (6-2, 3-0 NCAC) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
