WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored 10 goals during the game's opening 11:08 and then cruised to an easy 21-2 win over Franciscan University of Steubenville, a third-year program, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match-up that was played on Follis Field at nearby Wooster High School.

The Fighting Scots (6-2), now averaging 18.1 goals per game this season, were scoring nearly every minute, sometimes even quicker, during the early parts of the first half. One spurt saw Wooster score three times in just 1:18, as Shelby Stone pumped in an unassisted tally, and moments later, she assisted on goals to Molly Sennett and Abby Szlachta which made it 8-0.

Wooster's cushion expanded to 11-0, which included four goals from Szlachta, before Franciscan (1-4) interrupted the scoring run to notch its first goal with just 1:03 remaining in the first half. The Scots answered back in a hurry, with Heather Szymanski rifling a shot past the goalkeeper with one second to spare on the game clock, to give her team a 12-1 advantage at the break.

The Scots dialed back the offense a bit in the second half, taking just 11 shots in the period, although nine went in, highlighted by another three from Szymanski which tied her with teammate Szlachta for a game-high four goals.

Mara Sheban made the most of her extended minutes in the second half, as she finished with career-highs in caused turnovers (5) and groundballs (8) in a breakout performance. She also scored a goal and dished out the first assist of her career.

Also noteworthy, Ellie Hudson-Heck led the team in draw controls with four, which weren't easy to come by, as the Scots just narrowly led Franciscan, 13-11, in that category.

On Wednesday, Wooster will continue its five-game homestand when it welcomes Baldwin Wallace University (3-2) to John P. Papp Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
