An early 5-0 second-half swing helped propel The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to an 18-13 victory over Saint Mary's College (Ind.) on Wednesday morning at Englewood, Fla.

Wooster (3-1), who saw its lead trimmed to two (10-8) just over a minute into the second half, extended its lead back out to seven over the ensuing 10:15. Junior Michaela Lawrence led the scoring spree by finishing a free from first-year Minjoo Kang, and later, buried a second goal during the run with a free-position shot that made it 14-8 at the time.

During the decisive stretch, Wooster's defense and transition were equally as effective as the Fighting Scots only allowed one shot attempt, which was turned aside by first-year 'keeper Emma Hambright, while sophomores Megan Healy and Laura Papp each caused turnovers during the 5-0 run. Factoring in to Wooster's success during the stretch was a 4-for-5 mark on the draw controls with Lawrence winning a pair.

The opening half featured a flurry of goals as the Scots held a 3-1 lead three minutes into the contest. Sophomore Jordan Stone led the way at the game's onset with a free-position tally :37 into the contest, and capped the explosive start with a feed to senior Heather Szymanski.

Later, St. Mary's (0-2) Hanna Makowski netted a pair of goals to pull the Belles within one, but Wooster answered right back scores from Lawrence and Helena Enders to make it a three-goal margin at 6-3 less than a minute later.

Offensively, Papp continued her lights-out spring trip with a career-high five goals, and has eight on 11 shot attempts over the last two games. Enders backed that total up with four scores while Lawrence netted a hat trick on the day.

Defensively, Lawrence and Papp scooped up three groundballs each while Healy, Papp, and sophomore Megan Myers each filled the stat sheet with two caused turnovers.

Kate Kelly paced St. Mary's with four goals and six draw controls.

Wooster closes out its three-game Florida trip with a 10 a.m. contest against Calvin College (1-2) on Saturday.
