The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team capped its spring trip with a quality win over a team that made the 2016 NCAA Div. III Championships as the Fighting Scots used a 9-1 stretch to pull away from Calvin College 17-11 on Saturday morning at Englewood, Fla. to conclude their spring break trip with a 2-1 mark.

Wooster (4-1) scored five times over the final 9:01 of the first half as part of that 9-1 stretch. Senior Heather Szymanski tallied the first goal of the decisive run that saw Wooster trail Calvin (1-3) 4-3 at the onset before the Scots pulled ahead by seven at 12-5 when sophomore Jordan Stone capped the scoring spree with 20:08 remaining in the game.

Just under a minute after Szymanski's goal, sophomore Laura Papp set-up classmate Megan Healy with 8:05 to go in the opening stanza to put the Scots up for good. Of note, seven different Wooster student-athletes accounted for the final seven goals of the 9-1 stretch, including junior Michaela Lawrence, who earlier in the game, netted two of Wooster's first three goals.

After Stone's goal closed out the run, Wooster's defense didn't allow Calvin back into the contest as the two teams nearly went back-and-forth in the scoring column the rest of the way with Calvin holding a slim 5-4 advantage over the final 11:46, but neither team scored back-to-back goals over the last 10:37 of the contest.

Szymanski led Wooster with four goals on the morning while seven of the Scots' eight goal scorers found the back of the net more than once, including Healy and Lawrence who both finished with hat tricks.

In the draw circle, Lawrence and first-year Jenny Grossmann combined for nine draws while sophomore Megan Myers led the defense with four groundballs in the contest.

Notable, first-year Emma Hambright finished with nine saves, one shy of her season-high.

Kelly Pepper paced Calvin with four goals and an assist while the Knights had four student-athletes with three groundballs.

Next, Wooster opens its home slate with a 1 p.m. contest against Hendrix College (4-3) before remaining at home to open North Coast Athletic Conference action against Oberlin College (4-0) next Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
