Papp's Career Day Helps Land Sophomore NCAC Athlete-of-the-Week Honor

Laura Papp

Sophomore Laura Papp of The College of Wooster parlayed a career offensive day into North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete-of-the-Week honors, as announced by the NCAC office on Monday afternoon. The attacker helped lead the Fighting Scots to a 2-1 record in Englewood, Fla. last week.

Papp played a key role in Wooster's 18-13 win over Saint Mary's College (Ind.) with a career-high five goals. In fact, Papp turned in an all-around effort in the five-goal win with three groundballs, three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and an assist.

Then on Saturday, Papp recorded a co-game-high five points as Wooster ended its Florida trip with an impressive 17-11 win over Calvin College, a team who qualified for the 2016 NCAA Div. III Championships. Papp dished out three of Wooster's four assists in the game, including one on the go-ahead goal that came during a 9-1 Scot run. The sophomore turned in a two-goal afternoon to pair with two draw controls.

For the week, Papp tallied 10 goals and passed out four assists.

Wooster (4-1) hosts Hendrix College (4-3) at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Scots' first home game of 2017.
