WOOSTER, Ohio – Sophomore Laura Papp, the reining North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete-of-the-Week, delivered a 10-point game as The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team turned in a well-rounded home debut during its 23-11 win over Hendrix College on Wednesday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Papp matched her career-high with five goals and added five assists for Wooster (5-1) in what marked the Fighting Scots' first game with an individual double-digit point performance since Madison Carey did so against Oberlin College during the 2011 season. Coincidentally, Wooster and Oberlin (6-0) open NCAC play at Papp Stadium at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Wooster scored :14 into the game as the Scots won the opening draw and worked the ball to senior Heather Szymanski. Notable, the goal marked the second time in the last three games the Scots have scored in the opening minute. From there, the goals came at a fast-and-furious pace as each team netted a trio in the opening 4:06.

Sophomore Laura Papp turned in Wooster's first double-digit point game since Madison Carey had 11 points against Oberlin in 2011.

Then, Wooster found its rhythm and rattled off a 7-0 run with Papp leading the charge with three goals and an assist during the stretch. In fact, Papp was heavily involved in other facets of the game during the run with a caused turnover, groundball, and draw control.

Defensively, Hendrix's (4-5) first eight possessions ended in turnovers during the 7-0 run before Bridget Umble halted the Warriors' scoring drought with her 23rd tally of the season at the 11:17 mark. Sophomore Megan Healy turned in the biggest stop statistically during Wooster's run with a caused turnover near the Scots' net with 16:08 to go in the stanza.

Later, Wooster went on a 4-0 run with a pair of goals from junior Michaela Lawrence leading the way as the Scots pulled ahead by 10 with just over 1:30 remaining in the first half.

In the second stanza, Wooster closed with a strong 6-1 push, which included junior Helena Enders and Papp netting their co-team-leading 17th goals of the season. Near the end of the game, Szymanski pumped in a pair of scores to give the Scots the most goals scored in a game since Wooster beat Trine University 24-10 on April 11, 2010.

For the game, Enders backed up Papp's 10-point afternoon with four goals and three assists while Lawrence and Szymanski both put four tallies in the scoring column.

Defensively, first-year Jenny Grossmann lead the way with a co-game-high four groundballs to pair with three caused turnovers. In goal, classmate Emma Hambright turned aside five shots, including two of the final three she faced on the day.

Umble led Hendrix with five goals while Morgan Dasch dished out five assists to pair with six draw controls.
