WOOSTER, Ohio – A slow start befell The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team as they fell 16-5 to a high-powered Oberlin College offense on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium as part of the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both programs.

Wooster (5-2, 0-1 NCAC) was outscored 11-1 in the first half, with sophomore Laura Papp notching the first goal for the Fighting Scots at the 19:59 mark.

Natalie Rauchle led the Yeowomen (7-0, 1-0 NCAC) with seven goals on the day, including six in the first half. After Papp's goal brought the Scots to within two (3-1), Rauchle rattle off three goals within a two-minute span. Of note, Rauchle tallied five of Oberlin's first six goals, including five in a row for the Yeowomen.

For the Scots offensively, the second half brought more balance to the field as Wooster totaled four goals in the final 30 minutes.

Three straight tallies from junior Helena Enders, sophomore Jordan Stone and senior captain Heather Szymanski brought the Scot to within nine, but Oberlin braved the storm with three straight goals of their own before Szymanski tacked on her second of the game with 3:17 left to play.

On the day, Wooster scooped up 20 groundballs, led by three each from sophomore Megan Healy, junior Michaela Lawrence and sophomore Rose Taylor. Papp totaled three caused turnovers on the day and first-year goalkeeper Emma Hambright came away with seven saves on the day.

Stone led the Scots with two assists while Szymanski posted a shot-on-goal percentage of 75 percent (6-for-8).

Oberlin entered the game as the 10th-most productive offensive in NCAA Div. III with 17.33 goals per game in addition to sporting the seventh-best scoring defense, allowing 3.83 goals per game.
