Scots End West Coast Trip with Record-Setting 27-9 Victory Over Whittier

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team set a program record for goals in a game with a 27-9 victory over Whittier College on Saturday afternoon at Whittier, Calif.

The Fighting Scots (2-1) wrapped up the west coast portion of their spring break slate with a convincing win, highlighted by a dominating 15-2 second-half scoreline.

First-year Alexa Mellis led all scorers with a season-best six goals, followed by five from senior Helena Enders and four from junior Megan Healy.

Junior Laura Papp tied her career-best with five assists, while junior Emma Lawrence and first-year Cassie Buzzelli tallied two each.

After a game-opening goal from Whittier (1-6) nearly 90 seconds in, Wooster responded with four straight from four different players as part of a larger 6-2 run.

Senior Michaela Lawrence netted her first of the year midway through the first half to push Wooster's lead to four (7-3) before Whittier's Emily Hansen scored two straight to cut the deficit to two.

From there, the Scots ended the half on a 5-2 run, fueled by three goals from Healy.

At the start of the second half, Enders game out of the gates with her second of the game just :38 into the frame to kick off a 13-0 Wooster run, which spanned over 20 minutes.

Healy finished with a career-high nine draw controls, followed by six from first-year Miura Wiley. Emma Lawrence and Healy each finished with two caused turnovers.

The Scots return to Ohio on March 21 for a 6:30 p.m. bout at Baldwin Wallace University (2-4).
