Scots Win Big On St. Patrick's Day

Syd Schuster, Wooster lacrosse CONWAY, Arkansas – The College of Wooster's women's lacrosse team overmatched host Hendrix College on St. Patrick's Day, with the Fighting Scots hitting the 20-goal mark for the third straight time in a 20-1 rout at Warrior Lacrosse Field.

While Wooster (6-0) continued to click offensively and score nearly at will, like it has for the majority of the season, Thursday marked the most complete game statistically for the Scots. Wooster's one goal allowed marked a season low, and Hendrix (0-5) managed just six shot attempts on the night. The Scots held onto the ball and did not make many miscues, with just seven turnovers in the contest, a new low mark for the year by five. Of note, the Scots had just one tally in the turnover column in the first and third periods.

Wooster's recent theme of overwhelming first periods was prevalent again. The Scots scored eight times in the opening 15 minutes, and built a 12-0 lead before Hendrix's Lilah Biggers netted the host's lone goal of the night. The Scots did not score again in the opening half after Biggers' tally with 5:04 remaining, but did put eight unanswered scores on the board after halftime.

First-year Kenzie Morris, sophomore Kenzie Smith, and senior Syd Schuster turned in hat tricks, while junior Jill Murray, senior Caitlyn O'Connor, and junior Hannah Shaw found the scoring column twice each. Junior Britta Treu accounted for three of Wooster's seven assists, while Shaw's five draw controls led the way. In all, nine different Scots tracked down at least one draw control on the night.

Caitlyn O'Connor and sophomore Ciara O'Connor scooped up three groundballs each, while Wooster was credited with eight caused turnovers spread out among eight players.

Biggers added three draw controls, three groundballs, and a caused turnover to her line.

Wooster finished with 36 shots and had a 28-13 groundball advantage. The Scots had 17 draw controls to the Warriors' seven.

Next, Wooster's at Trine University for a 5 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 23.
