Wooster Bounces Back, Downs Adrian, 18-4

Angelia Bolivar, Wooster Lacrosse WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team is back to its winning ways, as the Fighting Scots bounced back from Saturday's loss with an 18-4 win over Adrian College on Thursday evening at John P. Papp Stadium.

While Wooster (8-1) led wire-to-wire, the second period is where the Scots asserted their dominance, turning a 5-1 first-period advantage into a sizable 13-4 halftime cushion. Sophomore Angelina Bolivar scored the first of Wooster's eight goals in the period. Later, Wooster had two instances where it scored within 20 seconds of winning a draw control. Junior Hannah Shaw scored the first of those goals, finishing a feed from senior Caitlyn O'Connor with 12:27 left in the period. Near the end of the half, first-year Kenzie Morris collected the draw control after an Adrian (4-4) goal with 1:55 remaining, and the Scots' midfielder needed about five ticks after securing possession to put the ball into the cage.

Defensively, Wooster held Adrian to a 2-for-5 mark on clear attempts in the second, and senior Syd Schuster was right there to secure possession via groundballs on two of the failed tries. On the first, the Scots' senior midfielder caused an Olive Stevens turnover, while on the third failed clear, junior Clare Leithauser gained possession on the groundball.

Morris' third score of the night grew the lead to 10 at the third period's 14:24 mark, and the Scots kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the final 31:55, thanks in part to the play of first-year Maeve Burke, who made two saves late in the fourth.

Shaw's four goals were the high mark on the night, and junior Britta Treu took the award for most points at six on three goals and three assists. Morris finished with a hat trick, and Schuster had a three-point night with two goals and an assist.

Schuster won eight of Wooster's 18 ground controls, while Burke, Morris, and Schuster collected four groundballs apiece. Senior Lillian Miller and Morris each caused three turnovers, and the Scots totaled 11 on the night.

Stevens was Adrian's do-it-all player. She had two goals, an assist, seven groundballs, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers, all of which marked team-highs.

Wooster outshot Adrian 38-10, had a 26-19 groundball advantage, and held the Bulldogs to 9-of-24 on clears.

Next, Wooster (0-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) is at Oberlin College (3-5, 0-0 NCAC) for a noon contest on Saturday, April 2.
