Wooster Dispatches Wittenberg, 15-2

Lillian Miller, Wooster lacrosse WOOSTER, Ohio – Archrival Wittenberg University's women's lacrosse team was no match for The College of Wooster, which made quick work of the Tigers early, then coasted to a 15-2 win on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Junior Hannah Shaw set the tone with three goals in the first period alone. First-year Kenzie Morris hit double-digit assists on the year on Shaw's hat-trick clincher that came with 3:17 left in the first. The helpers kept coming in the second period, this time from junior Britta Treu who closed in on 20 assists for the season. Number 18 came on senior Caitlyn O'Connor's 22nd goal of the year, and later, Morris soared over 30 scores on the year, reaching 32 before halftime.

Senior CC Dent impressed in goal, stopping four Wittenberg (5-7, 0-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) shots in the first half. The Tigers did not score until Grace Kennedy made a free-position goal at the 3:42 mark of the third period. Kennedy's goal snapped Wooster's (11-1, 3-1 NCAC) 12-0 run.

Notable, Wooster played a much cleaner game with just 16 turnovers, the program's lowest mark of the last six games. The Scots did not have a failed clear on the day, going 17-for-17, which included at least a 4-for-4 showing in each stanza.

Five different Scots caused a turnover in the opening quarter, and that helped Wooster jump out to a 7-0 lead. In fact, it was nearly 8-0 on a near-buzzer-beater, but senior Syd Schuster's score came just after the clock hit all zeros and was waved off.

Shaw's three caused turnovers were the game-high, as were her four goals. The junior checked the ball out of Jessica Flick's stick with 1:40 remaining in the contest, then capped the day's scoring less than a minute later. She also had a game-high five draw controls.

Junior Clare Leithauser scooped up six of the Scots' 21 groundballs, while Morris, Shaw, and first-year Lexi Sarne had three apiece.

Katie Wadds led the way for Wittenberg with five groundballs, two caused turnovers, two draw controls, and one of the Tigers' goals.

Wooster outshot Wittenberg 25-11, had 21 groundballs to the Tigers' 16, and held the guests to 11-for-20 on clear attempts.

Next, Wooster's at John Carroll University (4-5) for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, April 13.
