The College of Wooster's Syd Schuster was an easy selection for this week's North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week following a record-breaking performance in league action.
Schuster became the first Fighting Scot to score nine times in a game, and the senior midfielder had over half of Wooster's goals in Wednesday's 17-11 NCAC win over Allegheny College. Schuster did not score until the clock wound down to 2:54 in the opening period, but the senior more than made up for it with a four-goal second period. Schuster scored twice more in the third and netted Wooster's final two goals of the night, with the record tally coming with 3:40 remaining in the game.
Schuster followed up the nine-goal night with a seven-point afternoon in Saturday's 20-12 win over Baldwin Wallace University. On the week, Schuster scored 13 goals, won eight draw controls, passed out four assists, and scooped up four groundballs, as Wooster went 2-0 to run its record to 13-2.
Schuster is the second Scot to earn NCAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. Junior Hannah Shaw, who broke the program's single-season draw controls record in Saturday's win, was the selection on March 7.
Wooster (4-1 NCAC) is back in action on Wednesday, April 27, when the Scots host Kenyon College (11-1, 5-0 NCAC) at 7 p.m.
