Five Scots Named to All-NCAC Team

Five College of Wooster women's lacrosse players earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors for the 2022 season. Senior Syd Schuster led the way as a first-team selection, while juniors Clare Leithauser and Hannah Shaw were tabbed for the second-team. First-year Kenzie Morris and senior Jill Murray rounded out Wooster's picks with spots on the honorable mention team.

Schuster's 49 goals and 61 points led Wooster's team, and both totals ranked in the top-six within the NCAC entering the week. The sociology major broke the program's single-game record with nine goals in a 17-11 NCAC victory over Allegheny College on April 20 and she tallied four goals in three other contests, including at Oberlin College, where the senior fired in the game-winning goal in a 13-12 overtime victory. In the midfield, Schuster won 69 draw controls, a total second on the team and fourth within the NCAC through the NCAC Tournament.

Leithauser emerged as a groundball magnet with 79 on the year, a total four shy of alumna Megan Healy's single-season program record. She logged six games with at least six groundballs, including in back-to-back conference wins over Ohio Wesleyan University and Wittenberg University. The political science major finished as the team's co-leader in caused turnovers at 26 and had 12 draw controls on the year.

Shaw broke Wooster's single-season and single-game draw controls records with 128 and 15, respectively, and was one of the team's top all-around performers, evidenced by top-three rankings in goals (38), groundballs (43), and caused turnovers (26). The psychology major led Wooster to a 306-226 margin on draw controls over the opposition and helped the Scots to a top-20 ranking in Div. III in draw controls per game through games played May 8. Shaw was credited with at least nine draw controls six times on the year.

Morris, Wooster's top newcomer, ranked second on the team in points and goals with 53 and 42, respectively. The first-year added 61 draw controls, 29 groundballs, and 16 caused turnovers to her 2022 stat line. The midfielder played a leading role in Wooster's 22-15 win over Otterbein University on March 2 with seven draw controls, four goals, three assists, and three caused turnovers.

Murray, who was third on the team with 51 points and 37 goals, jumped out the gate with back-to-back four-goal games to open the season. The biology and neuroscience major's signature outing came at Birmingham-Southern College. There, Murray scored five goals, scooped up four groundballs, and passed out two assists.

Wooster went 13-5 this season, which included a 4-3 ledger in conference play. The 13 wins are tied for the second-most in program history.
