Scots Top 50-Year Celebration with Win

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team welcomed back alum to celebrate 50 years of the sport at Wooster and in the process defeated Wittenberg University 20-9 on Saturday.

Wooster was led by a five-goal performance from Kenzie Smith, who last scored that many when she scored seven in the season opener.

Kenzie Morris added four goals, while Kaitlyn McBride and Brynne Snaguski each scored three. Adding a pair of goals each was Bella Woodbury and Lizzie Hardy, while Ciara O'Connor wrapped up the scoring with a single goal.

In addition, McBride and Morris each added a pair of assists, while Hardy and O'Connor each tallied one.

At goalkeeper, Ashley Reynolds started and played the first 22:49, allowing six goals. First -year Audrey Richardson came in and ended up playing most of the time, 37:11, making three saves and allowing just three goals.

Wooster's pressure defense made it difficult for the Tigers to get established as they succeeded in just 11 of 23 clear opportunities and committed 24 turnovers.

That in turn allowed the Scots to outshoot the Tigers 52-14.

While Wittenberg tallied the game's first goal, Wooster answered with the next three. After a 5-4 first quarter, Wooster would not pull away until a 6-2 second quarter, followed by a 7-1 third, leading 18-7 after three periods.

It was Wooster's first North Coast Athletic Conference win after falling to Denison University in their opener earlier this week. Wooster moves to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg falls to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will host Kenyon College in another NCAC matchup on Tuesday.
