» 2008 NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region Team

The College of Wooster's Kristin McCall (Portage, Mich. / Portage Northern) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas® NCAA Div. III All-America Third Team and teammate Chantal Koechli (Greer, S.C. / Brighton – Mich.) joined her on the All-Great Lakes Region Team, announced the organization late Monday. McCall, who becomes the first Wooster women's soccer player to earn All-American honors since 1996, was first-team all-region and Koechli collected third-team honors.

McCall, a senior defender and team tri-captain, anchored the Fighting Scots backfield this fall. Opponents were limited to one score or less during 16 of the squad's 20 matches, including eight shutouts. Overall, they scored 17 goals, which tied for the fewest in the North Coast Athletic Conference. McCall occasionally moved up the field to make her presence felt on offense, as she chipped in with four points on her first career goal, which occurred with just :37 remaining in her final regular season home game, and two assists.

For her career, McCall was a three-time all-NCAC defender, including first-team honors each of the last two years. Wooster posted shutouts in 24 of the 55 games she played (45 starts), a percentage of .436. McCall helped the Scots to a 47-23-5 overall record (.660) and to two NCAC Tournaments (2006, 2008) during her tenure, missing some time due to injury as a freshman and sophomore.

Koechli, who previously picked up first-team Academic All-American® and first-team all-NCAC recognition, was the key cog of Wooster's midfield line this season. The standout junior led the conference in assists with 10 and ranks among the top-50 in NCAA Div. III in that category (0.50 apg). She scored a career-high five goals for 20 points – the seventh-most in the NCAC – while also serving as a pivotal player on the defensive end.

Through three years, Koechli has totaled 34 points, highlighted by 18 assists, which puts her on pace to equal the school's career record in that category, held by former teammate Erin Lustic (24 from 2004-06).

The Scots finished with a 14-6 overall record in 2008, marking the most wins for the program since the 1996 campaign (18-3). Wooster got off to its best start in school history with six-straight victories, then endured a 3-5 stretch. Next, the Scots reeled off five in a row, including back-to-back road wins at nationally-ranked Denison University, before suffering a heartbreaking 1-0 double-overtime loss to Wittenberg University in the NCAC Tournament finals.
