Wooster Stays Perfect Behind Koechli’s Goal, Assist

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team tied a season-high with four goals Saturday afternoon, easily dispatching Bethany College in the first meeting between the two schools 4-1 during non-conference play at a soggy Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Wooster, off to a 5-0 start for the second consecutive season, controlled most of the action Saturday, but only took a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Wooster's lone score during the first 45 minutes was provided by freshman Bri Fulmer on junior Chantal Koechli's assist in the 12th minute. The goal was Fulmer's team-high third on the season, while Koechli collected her team-best fourth helper.

The Fighting Scots continued their offensive pressure in the second half, steadily wearing down Bethany. In the 47th minute, Koechli put the home team ahead by a 2-0 score, finding the Bethany net on a breakaway.

Bethany (2-4) sliced the Wooster lead in half nearly 19 minutes later, as Katie Hobbs tallied her first goal of the fall.

Just under 14 minutes later, the Fighting Scots made it 3-1 when freshman Maggie Kehm worked her way down the right side, sending a perfect cross into the box to the foot of junior Simone DiSalvo. DiSalvo calmly put away the ball in the back of the twine for her first tally of the season, and fifth of her career.

Sophomore Liz Mott put Wooster ahead by three scores in the 83rd minute. She took the ball herself and dribbled through and around the Bethany defense, eventually lofting a shot from 18 yards over the goalie's head for her second goal on the young season.

In net, Alix Hoffman recorded one save in a half of action for Wooster, while Sara Flannelly notched three saves during the second stanza in the victory. Bethany starter Julie Brady registered eight saves between the pipes in one half of work, while Courtney Teets stopped three Wooster would-be scoring attempts.

Statistically, Wooster held a 35-4 advantage in shots, and a 4-0 mark in corner kicks.

The Scots continue their non-league schedule Sunday when they host Kalamazoo College (3-3) at 1 p.m.
