Riney, Mott Score to Lift Wooster Past Earlham 2-0

A pair of first-half goals by The College of Wooster women's soccer team was more than enough for the Fighting Scots to pickup their first North Coast Athletic Conference victory, as they blanked host Earlham College 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Ind.

Wooster (9-4, 1-2 NCAC) got on the board just :39 into the match when Mary Riney scored her second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Chantal Koechli after the Scots drew a corner kick. It marked the team-leading ninth assist on the season for Koechli, moving her into fourth place in Wooster single-season history. The helper gives her 17 for her career, vaulting her into a fourth-place tie in the Wooster career laurels.

Nearly 21 minutes later, sophomore Liz Mott made it 2-0 for the Scots. The goal was her sixth this year, and was assisted by Riney.

Overall, Wooster held a 9-6 shot advantage and earned five corner kicks to Earlham's two.

Wooster sophomore goalkeeper Alix Hoffman produced two saves while preserving her third shutout of the campaign. On the other end of the field, Quaker goalkeeper Megan Holthaus tallied four stops.

The Scots have a week off before continuing NCAC play next Saturday afternoon when they host Ohio Wesleyan University (7-4-2, 2-0-1 NCAC) at 1 p.m. at Carl Dale Memorial Field as part of Homecoming Weekend festivities.
