Mott's Early Second Half Goal Enough for Wooster Win

The College of Wooster's Liz Mott booted in a goal early in the second half, accounting for the lone score of Saturday's non-conference women's soccer match at Alma College, as the visiting Fighting Scots prevailed 1-0 over another group of Scots. Alma has the same nickname for its athletic teams.

Entering off of its first loss of the season, Wooster (7-1) played a scoreless first half, but it took just 35 seconds for the Fighting Scots to get on the board during the second. Mott took a pass from fellow forward Kate Kiley and beat 'keeper Emma Heppler for her fourth goal of the campaign. It marked Kiley's first assist.

That's all the offense Alix Hoffman and the Wooster defense needed, as the sophomore goalie notched her second complete-game shutout, only needing two saves to preserve it. Heppler stopped three shots for Alma (4-4).

The Scots continue non-league play next Saturday when they host Washington & Jefferson College (5-2) at 2 p.m.
