Wooster Ends Non-Conference Schedule With 1-0 Loss at John Carroll

The College of Wooster women's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of its 2008 schedule with an 8-2 mark, matching its mark after 10 games of a season ago. However, one of its two losses came on Tuesday evening at John Carroll University, as the Blue Streaks nipped the Fighting Scots 1-0 during a steady rain in University Heights.

The lone score in the contest was courtesy of John Carroll's Rachel Grdina 4:37 into the second half, when she connected on a shot off a corner kick that got by Wooster goalkeeper Alix Hoffman.

Wooster outshot John Carroll (7-1-2) by a 16-7 count, including a pair of scoring opportunity midway through the second stanza. Nora Simon blasted a shot that just sailed over the John Carroll crossbar nearly 15 minutes into the stanza, and set up another chance on a cross to Maggie Kehm, but the Blue Streak's Michelle Zrebiec came up and denied Kehm's would-be game-tying attempt. Zrebiec was credited with 11 saves, while Hoffman tallied four saves on the evening.

The Scots will open up North Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon when they play host to regionally-ranked Wittenberg University (5-1-4) at 1 p.m. at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
