Piper's Early Goal Fuels 1-0 Win Over Kenyon

WOOSTER, Ohio - One goal was all The College of Wooster women's soccer team needed to pick up its second-straight North Coast Athletic Conference win, as an early score and solid defensive pressure led to a 1-0 shutout over visiting Kenyon College on Saturday at Carl Dale Field.

Paige Piper put the Fighting Scots (10-3-4, 2-3-1 NCAC) in control at the 4:36 mark with a well placed shot that soared over the goalkeeper's reach and into the upper-right corner of the net. Piper took three shots in the match, all in the first half, and her game-winning score was her fifth goal of the season.

The Scots almost added an insurance goal shortly after the break, as Nora Simon connected with Liz Mott on a through ball that Mott blasted just right of the goal. Kenyon got some solid looks late in the match, including a break away by Lisa Vaughan in the final seconds that ended in a collision with goalkeeper Michele Ring, but Wooster was able to clear the loose ball and hold on for the victory.

Ring tallied three saves in her fifth shutout in goal this season, and her counterpart, Kat Powers, recorded two saves in the setback. Piper's three shots led the team, and Mott added two more, while Maggie Kehm, Kendal Wong, and Kelsey Peters recorded one each.

Wooster will look to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Hiram College (7-8-2, 1-5-0 NCAC) for more conference action on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
