Peters’ Goal Keeps Wooster’s Postseason Hopes Alive

The College of Wooster women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three on Wednesday with a 1-0 victory at Hiram College, which puts the Fighting Scots among a group of four squads vying for the fourth and final spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

After going winless over its first four NCAC matches, Wooster is now 3-3-1, good for 10 points (3 for a win, 1 for a tie) and a three-way tie for fifth-place with one play date remaining in the regular season. Earlham College and Kenyon College also have 10 points, while fourth-place Ohio Wesleyan University has 12.

The Fighting Scots' postseason hopes were kept alive when sophomore Kelsey Peters delivered a goal off a free kick from classmate Bri Fulmer during the 75th minute. It marked the fourth goal of the year for Peters and Fulmer's fourth assist.

Wooster's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Michele Ring, made the one score hold up. Ring collected just two saves to preserve the shutout, as Hiram was limited to five shots overall.

This Saturday afternoon, the Scots will need a win over No. 12 ranked Denison University when the Big Red visit Carl Dale Field and some help from others across the league. While that may seem like a tall task, Wooster faced a near-identical situation last year and the Scots made it into the postseason by beating then-No. 12 Denison 2-1.
