Koechli on 1st Team, as Part of Scots' Four All-NCAC Honorees

Four from The College of Wooster were on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Team, when it was announced by the league office Monday, and headlining the Fighting Scots' selections again was senior midfielder Chantal Koechli with a well-deserved spot on the first team for the second year in a row. Sophomore defender Kelsey Peters earned second-team recognition, while junior defender Kerry Kiley and freshman goalkeeper Michele Ring picked up honorable mention.

Koechli, now a three-time all-NCAC standout (honorable mention as a freshman), made an impact across the entire pitch for Wooster. Statistically, she tied for second on the squad in points with 12 coming on four goals and four assists, while setting up several other near scores. Koechli, one of four team captains, elevated her career total to 47 points, including 23 assists – the second-most in Scot history. She was also pivotal in limiting opponents to one goal or less in 14 of 19 matches during the 2009 season.

Peters, who received honorable mention on the all-conference team as a freshman, anchored the defensive backfield this fall. As a team, the Scots gave up just 17 total goals and ranked fourth in the NCAC with an average of 0.89 goals allowed. She also moved up the field at times and provided the offense an additional scoring threat, finishing with four goals, three of them coming over the final five matches.

Kiley, in her second year with the program after transferring to Wooster from Wheaton (Mass.) College, notched her initial postseason honor. A two-year starter on the back line, Kiley helped propel the Scots to nine shutouts, including three consecutive late in the season when they made a push for a spot in the NCAC tourney, and she served as one of the team captains.

Ring earned the nod in goal right from the start of her collegiate career and played nearly every minute this year. She registered a 0.78 goals against average and a .779 save percentage, while totaling 53 stops overall. Ring tallied five-plus saves in three matches, highlighted by a season-high eight during a tough double-overtime loss at rival Wittenberg University on Oct. 3.

As a team, Wooster was unbeaten through its first 11 matches (8-0-3) and wound up with its 10th double-digit win total (11-4-4) in the last 11 years.
