Wooster Gets Past Mt. Union 2-1 as Unbeaten Mark Reaches Six

The College of Wooster, which received the No. 7 ranking in the NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Region from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this week, kept its unbeaten season record intact while extending its winning streak to five matches on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory at Mt. Union College.

Wooster (5-0-1) scored in the very first minute when sophomore Mary Riney slipped through for an unassisted goal, marking her second of the year, and it remained 1-0 all the way through halftime.

About 12 minutes into the second, Mt. Union (1-4-1) found an opening in the upper left corner of the net to knot the non-conference match-up. The Fighting Scots' Erin Davison, a freshman who scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist in Saturday's game, answered shortly thereafter by knocking in what turned out to be the game-winner on an assist from classmate Kendal Wong during the 65th minute.

Wooster's defense made the lead hold up from there. In fact, the Purple Raiders only managed two shots the whole match, as 'keeper Michele Ring needed to make one save to preserve the win.

Next for the Scots is a weekend trip to Michigan where they'll play Albion College (2-0-2) Saturday and Kalamazoo College (1-2-1) on Sunday.
