Wooster Falls to No. 12 Denison 3-1 in Season Finale

The College of Wooster women's soccer team went into its game with No. 12 Denison University needing a win to keep its postseason hopes alive, but the Big Red took a big lead and held on to win 3-1, ending the Fighting Scots season on Saturday.

The Scots (11-4-4, 3-4-1 NCAC) tied the Big Red (15-2-2, 7-0-1 NCAC) in shot attempts with ten apiece, and led 7-3 in corner kicks, but Denison made its scoring opportunities count, including a breakaway goal by Maggie Hoskin in the 25th minute that gave her squad a 1-0 lead. Following the break, Lauren Farrell scored the Big Red's second goal, and then at the 61:46 mark, Anna Rusch gave Denison a three goal cushion on a scoring blast from 20-yards out.

Wooster got on the scoreboard late when Liz Mott headed in her team-best eighth goal on a Kelsey Peters cross, but that ended the comeback attempt. Senior Chantal Koechli led the Scots with three shot attempts, and Maggie Kehm added two more in the setback. Goalkeeper Michele Ring tallied three saves in the match, giving her 53 on the season, which ranks among the league's best.
