Scots Roll Past Oberlin 3-0

WOOSTER, Ohio – Three different players scored goals for The College of Wooster, as the Fighting Scots cruised to a 3-0 shutout of North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin College Wednesday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Wooster (9-3-4, 1-3-1 NCAC) controlled the action from the outset, outshooting its visitors by a 10-1 count during the opening half. The Scots made good on one of those chances when Bri Fulmer, positioned on the left wing about 15 yards outside of the box, lobbed a ball to Liz Mott, who headed it in from close range for her team-leading seventh goal. That sequence occurred during the 19th minute.

Oberlin (4-10-2, 0-6-0 NCAC) had an opportunity or two to make a game of it early in the second half, but the Scots' defense stayed strong. Wooster pushed the ball back to the other side of the field, and when the Yeowomen, were unable to clear, Chantal Koechli took advantage, winning the ball and then beating the 'keeper to the lower right in the 69th minute for a 2-0 cushion. It was Koechli's fourth goal this fall.

With the Scots already firmly in control, Kelsey Peters added an insurance goal in the 77th minute as she took a through ball from Erika Kay, squeezed through two defenders, and struck it into the lower right. For Peters, primarily a defender, it marked goal No. 3 of the season, while Kay, a freshman, recorded her first collegiate point.

Overall, Wooster outshot Oberlin 20-4, and the Scots' starting goalie, Michele Ring, only needed to make two saves to preserve the team shutout. She was pulled for the final 3:46.

The Scots continue their homestand Saturday when Kenyon College visits at 1 p.m.
