The College of Wooster women's soccer team scored two goals less than five minutes apart midway through the first half and those scores held up, as the Fighting Scots picked up a 2-1 victory at Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday night in western Pennsylvania.

For the second time in as many games, freshman Kathleen Kalafatis gave Wooster (2-0) a 1-0 lead, this time getting free about 10 yards in front of the net and rolling it past the 'keeper during the 24th minute. The Scots' Katherine Tuttle delivered on a deep shot, estimated at 20 yards out, in the 29th minute for the two-goal margin. That also marked Tuttle's second goal of the young season.

During the first 45 minutes, Wooster outshot Washington & Jefferson (0-1) by a 7-1 margin, but the second half was closer as the Presidents got off five attempts, including one early on that nestled in the net in the 48th minute.

It remained 2-1 the final 42:23. Washington & Jefferson's final push included a free kick that sailed over the crossbar during the 89th minute.

Defensively, freshman Elizabeth Clark got her first career start and went all 90 minutes, helping the Scots to the win with two saves.

Wooster will be in southeast Ohio for the Marietta College Classic this coming weekend.
