The College of Wooster, ranked No. 6 in the latest NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Region coaches' poll, improved to 3-0 for the second consecutive season, holding off a late rally by Marietta College to prevail 2-1 during the women's portion of the Marietta Soccer Classic Saturday in Marietta, Ohio.

Wooster controlled the action throughout, finishing with a 15-2 shot advantage, and gaining a fairly early 2-0 advantage. Jessica Friesen scored initially – the first goal of the junior's career – when she converted off a Kathleen Kalafatis cross during the 14th minute.

About 18 minutes later, Kennedy Payne made it 2-0 as the first-year notched her second goal already this fall after driving in a cross courtesy of Lauren Hancher.

The Fighting Scots seemed headed to a comfortable victory, but then Marietta (1-2) made things interesting with a score in the 86th minute. Wooster did not allow another shot to remain undefeated.

The Scots will be in action again Sunday afternoon, facing Defiance College (2-1) at the Marietta Classic.
