Wooster's Lauren Hancher drove this penalty kick into the right side of the net for her first goal this season.

WOOSTER, Ohio – Lauren Hancher converted a late penalty kick, then The College of Wooster kept the pressure on Wilmington College, however, the Fightin' Quakers hung on to escape Carl Dale Field with a 2-1 decision in non-conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 2-0, Wooster (4-2) attempted a rally, as the ball seemed to be in the Wilmington (4-1-1) defensive half for the majority of the final 15 minutes. The Fighting Scots caught a bit of a break when the visitors were whistled for a hand ball in the box, and Hancher easily drove the ball past the 'keeper into the right side of the goal to make it a one-score game with 4:44 remaining.

Wooster continued to press and had one last quality look, as Kennedy Payne, from the end line, sent a left-to-right cross, but it landed on the netting on top of the goal out-of-bounds.

The Quakers' scores came during the 11th and 57th minutes, the first on a deep shot from the left wing by Lauren Hamrock and the second after a free kick was volleyed around the box and eventually sent in by Lauren Lewis.

Hancher led the Scots with four shots, with the sophomore midfielder's goal being her first this season.

Next, Wooster will be at Carnegie Mellon University (3-1-1) on Wednesday night.
