A pair of first-half goals by Sophia Garfinkel allowed The College of Wooster to comfortably get past Ohio Wesleyan University 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both women's soccer teams on Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.

Garfinkel, a junior who had two career goals entering Saturday's action, scored on Wooster's (5-4-1, 1-0-0 NCAC) first shot of the contest, heading in a free kick at the 6:30 mark, with the assist coming from Carly Joliat.

Right around the midway point of the opening half, Garfinkel netted another, this time converting a cross that was delivered into the middle of the box by Jessica Friesen.

That ended up being all of the scoring, though the Fighting Scots would have a number of other good looks. Late in the first half, Katherine Tuttle had two near-misses, first having her shot cleared out by a defender and then hitting the post on another.

Overall, Wooster outshot Ohio Wesleyan (3-6-0, 0-1-0 NCAC) by a 21-6 count, and Scot 'keeper Sydney Hanzlik only needed to make one save to preserve the shutout.

The Scots will return to non-league play Tuesday with a visit from Geneva College (3-5) at 4:30 p.m.
