WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored on its first shot of the game, but did not find the mark on its ensuing 15 attempts, and Kenyon College converted on two of its few opportunities to upend the Fighting Scots 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday at Carl Dale Field.

Just over three minutes into the action, Sophia Garfinkel of Wooster (7-5-1, 2-1-0 NCAC) dribbled into the box, and from the right side, sent a hard shot on-goal that deflected off of a defender and into the net for the initial score. It marked Garfinkel's third goal of the season, all coming in conference games.

The Scots had a couple of scoring chances to extend the lead, as Kyrsten Kamlowsky, one of two Wooster seniors recognized prior to the start of the game (Paige Madden the other), delivered a couple of corner kicks into the box, each headed high by Lauren Hancher and Katherine Tuttle.

Late in the half, Kenyon (3-8-1, 1-2-0 NCAC) made a run into the box and there was a collision. The Ladies were awarded a penalty kick, and although Scot 'keeper Sydney Hanzlik guessed right, Becca Romaine was still able to slip the ball past her into the lower left corner to tie the game in the 40th minute.

Shortly after halftime was over, Kenyon gained the lead, with Romaine playing a key part in the score again. Positioned in the right corner, about five yards from both the sideline and end line, Romaine crossed the ball right to Maggie Smith in the center of the box and the latter headed it in.

Wooster controlled most of the action for the remainder of the match, attempting nine of its 16 shots during the second half, compared to just two for the Ladies. Among the best opportunities, Hancher attempted another header off of a Kamlowsky corner in the 57th minute and Tuttle drove a hard shot to the near post during the 68th minute, but Kenyon goalie Lauren Wolfe had it covered.

The Scots will look to bounce back on Tuesday night at Hiram College (8-4, 1-2 NCAC).
