Scots Pull Away from Yeowomen Via Three-Goal Second Half

Jessica Friesen didn't score on this shot in the first half, but would score early in the second to give Wooster a 1-0 lead.

WOOSTER, Ohio – After a scoreless first half, The College of Wooster women's soccer team turned up the pressure on Oberlin College in the second, netting three goals en route to a decisive 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at a cold Carl Dale Field on Wednesday.

Wooster (8-5-3, 3-1-2 NCAC) outshot Oberlin (4-11-0, 0-5-0 NCAC) by a 7-3 count during the opening 45 minutes, but had few high-quality looks at the goal, with Katherine Tuttle's deep shot from the right wing glancing off the inside of the left post and back into play being an exception.

That changed quickly after the halftime break, as just a little over three minutes into the second Tuttle delivered a well-placed left-to-right cross to the far post where Jessica Friesen one-touched it in for the initial score. It marked Friesen's third goal of the season and Tuttle's second assist.

The Fighting Scots continued to hold possession the majority of the time in the Yeowomen's defensive half, and in the 69th minute, shortly after a Lauren Hancher shot was blocked by a defense, Gabi Morrison chipped the ball over the goalie and under the crossbar for a 2-0 advantage. It was the junior midfielder's third career goal, first this year.

About five minutes later, Wooster added an insurance goal off of a free kick. Kyrsten Kamlowsky served the ball right into the middle of the box where Hancher headed the ball in just under the crossbar for her third goal of the fall.

Defensively, the Scots notched their sixth shutout, yielding just four shots as a team.

Wooster will be at rival Wittenberg University (7-6-3, 3-1-1 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
