Seven Different Fighting Scots Score in 8-0 Rout of Beavers

WOOSTER, Ohio – Seven different players scored goals, including a pair off the foot of Crystal Chavez, as The College of Wooster women's soccer team kicked off its 2014 home schedule with an 8-0 thumping of Bluffton University at a warm and humid Carl Dale Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The eight goals were the most in team history since Sept. 5, 2009, when Wooster also put eight on the scoreboard versus St. Vincent College.

On Wednesday, Wooster controlled play throughout, winding up with a 35-2 shot advantage, and the Fighting Scots' goals came in bunches. The first two were 2:31 apart midway through the first half, with Chavez converting a breakaway and Lily Mohre running down a through ball and shooting it left past the 'keeper. Wooster scored twice over the final 10 minutes of the half, first Katherine Tuttle making a deep shot from the left wing and then first-year Lissette Torres outracing a defender to a ball en route her first collegiate goal.

Lauren Hancher
Lauren Hancher controls possession and heads up field during the Scots' 8-0 victory.

The score remained 4-0 more than 20 minutes into the second half, then the Scots exploded for four tallies in just 9:30. Kathleen Kalafatis started the scoring binge by finishing a two-on-one breakaway as she knocked in a pass from Tuttle. Chavez scored one minute later, with the play being started on Lauren Hancher's through ball to Tuttle, who crossed it to the far post where the senior forward finished. Hancher, on an unassisted play, and Isabel Abarca, via a cross from first-year Maggie Sestito, completed the scoring.

Also of note, Wooster goalie Elizabeth Clark made two saves during the second half to complete the shutout.

The Scots will head to Marietta, Ohio, this weekend for games against Defiance College (1-1) and Marietta College (0-2).
