Two of the top teams in the Great Lakes Region squared off Tuesday evening, as John Carroll University came away with a 2-0 victory over The College of Wooster, despite the Fighting Scots nearly doubling the Blue Streaks shot attempts, in women's soccer action at University Heights, Ohio.

John Carroll (5-2) entered tonight's game ranked 10th in this week's regional poll, while the Scots (6-3) appeared in the others receiving votes category.

Wooster outshot the Blue Streaks by a 17-10 margin on the night, with six attempts coming from top-scorer Katherine Tuttle and another four off the foot of Crystal Chavez, but opposing 'keeper Haley McDonald made nine saves to keep the Scots off the scoreboard for just the second time this season.

Early in the first half, a cross that was sent into Wooster's goal box was misplayed by a defender and went into the Scots' net for an uncharacteristic own goal. After that, Wooster produced four of the next five shot attempts during an aggressive six-minute stretch, but John Carroll fended off the attack.

About midway through the second stanza, the Blue Streaks lit the scoreboard again, this time on a traditional goal from Kaylin Akerly that put the home team ahead 2-0.

The Scots created plenty more good looks down the stretch, including one off a corner kick, when Lily Mohre delivered a ball to Lauren Hancher, and the latter's header was saved by McDonald.

Wooster finishes the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-3 record and will begin league play against Ohio Wesleyan University (1-4-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities.
