WOOSTER, Ohio – Lauren Hancher of The College of Wooster converted a penalty kick during the 67th minute for the lone goal in the Fighting Scots' 1-0 Homecoming win over Ohio Wesleyan University on a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Field. It was the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both squads.

Wooster (7-3, 1-0 NCAC) dictated much of the action during the first half, holding a 7-2 shot advantage. The hosts' best scoring opportunity may have been a well-placed corner kick off the foot of Carly Joliat in the 45th minute, however, the Scots were unable to get a clean shot off, and it was scoreless at halftime.

Ohio Wesleyan (1-6-2, 0-1-0 NCAC) nearly had the game's initial score when Elisabeth D'Amelio made a run down the left side, slid a ball into the box that may have been deflected by teammate Alyssa Giarrusso and past the Scot 'keeper, however, Joliat was there to clear the ball away during the 54th minute.

Three minutes later, Wooster's Jessica Friesen put an attempt towards the far side that was just inches wide of the post.

The Scots kept the pressure on and were eventually rewarded when Sophia Garfinkel brought the ball into the box and was fouled. Hancher stepped up, clipping the penalty kick off the crossbar and into the net for her third goal this fall.

Wooster's defense made the score hold up, with Carly Eppler making two of her four saves over the final 23:36.

The Scots continue NCAC play at DePauw University (2-5-1, 0-1-1 NCAC) next Saturday afternoon.
