Torres' Hat Trick Sparks Wooster Women's Soccer in 4-0 Win

Lissette Torres scored two of her three goals 70 seconds apart.

Sparked by sophomore Lissette Torres' hat trick, The College of Wooster women's soccer team posted its third-straight shutout with a 4-0 win over Saint Vincent College on Sunday afternoon at Carl Dale Field in Wooster, Ohio. The win marks the first three-match win streak for the College the Fighting' Scots (4-1-1) had three-straight from Sept. 3-7, 2014.

Torres scored her first two goals of the match 70 seconds apart. She dribbled in to beat St. Vincent goalkeeper Corinne Burk in the 39th minute. Moments later, the speedy forward was off to the race on the fast break. She was able to play the ball over a sprawled-out Burk to create a wide-open scoring opportunity.

In the second half, Torres broke free again in the 63rd minute. Junior Kathleen Kalafatis, who herself had a pair of scores in Saturday's win, fed the ball to Torres who was able to put home her third goal of the match. It marked the first hat trick since Paige Piper's in 2011 against Oberlin.

In the 70th minute, the Scots' speed was on display again as first-year Harper Jones was able to setup classmate Sadie Norton on the break.

Senior Lauren Hancher had two near-misses midway through the first-half when the match was still scoreless. First, she had a header attempt bang off the post. Moments later, her 1-on-1 opportunity was denied as Burk was able to corral her deflection from the initial shot attempt from the Scots' senior captain.

Wooster, who controlled the pace for most of the match, finished with 25 shot attempts on the afternoon.

Defensively, junior Carly Eppler and Elizabeth Clark combined for the shutout, and finished with four saves collectively.

Today marked the first time the College has scored four-plus goals in back-to-back contests since 2010. That year Wooster scored six times at Oberlin College and followed with a five-score outing against Ohio Wesleyan University.

Wooster returns to the road for a 7 p.m. match at Washington & Jefferson College (3-0-1) on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
