WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster made several offensive runs into the box in the second half, but could not find the back of the net as an early score by Wilmington College held up as the lone goal during women's soccer action at a rainy Carl Dale Field on Saturday afternoon.

Wooster (5-2-1), ranked No. 8 in this week's NCAA Div. III Great Lakes coaches' regional poll, was in catch-up mode starting in the game's third minute. Taylor Scott of Wilmington (4-3) possessed the ball on the left wing and appeared to be sending a cross into the box. Instead, it sailed over the outstretched goalkeeper's hands and nestled into the upper 90 for a goal just 2:08 into the action.

Shortly after the score, heavy rain fell on the field and there were few offensive chances for either team the rest of the first half. The Fighting Scots did have one open look, but Harper Jones's hard drive from about 15 yards out was stopped.

As the rain let up, Wooster pressured the Quakers throughout the second, piling up a 6-2 shot advantage. The Scots' best two opportunities consisted of a Lauren Hancher header off of a Sadie Norton corner kick that went wide in the 59th minute and a Kennedy Payne attempt from in front of the net that sailed high in the 76th minute.

Wooster continues its homestand on Tuesday when John Carroll University (2-4-1) visits at 4:30 p.m.
