Regionally-Ranked Wooster Drops Road Tilt to Denison

 Amy Graham

The College of Wooster women's soccer team dropped a key North Coast Athletic Conference match by a 2-0 count to Denison University on Tuesday evening in Granville, Ohio.

Denison's Anne Denz jump started the Big Red (12-1, 4-0 NCAC) in the sixth minute, looping a shot over Wooster (9-4-1, 2-2-0 NCAC) goalkeeper Carly Eppler from 18 yards out.

Denison, ranked fourth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of American Great Lakes Regional Poll, continued to pressure, nearly doubling its lead in the 12th minute with Sam Haseltine's shot clanging of off the crossbar. Wooster, ranked ninth in this week's regional poll, withstood another tough test in the 40th minute as Amy Graham knocked away a Denison shot attempt right in front of the net.

Wooster's attack would be on point in the first half with all three shots attempted on goal, but the Big Red's Jenny Herold came away with stops on all three shots.

Denison extended its lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute with Grace Murray sailing a header past Eppler off of a low cross from Naomi Barker. Seconds later, Eppler was tested again punching a Denison shot attempt into the crossbar before recovering to corral the loose ball.

Lissette Torres and Lily Mohre led the charge late with Wooster's last three shot attempts. However, the Big Red were able to block the first two before Herold made her fifth save of the night.

Eppler finished with six saves for Wooster.

Tonight marked the first time this season Wooster's opponents have scored in back-to-back games.

Wooster returns home to take on DePauw University (6-5-1, 3-0-0 NCAC) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
