Wooster Falls in Double Overtime to League Leaders

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team dropped a double-overtime heartbreaker on "Senior Day" at Carl Dale Field, falling by a 2-1 count to DePauw University in a North Coast Athletic Conference tilt Saturday afternoon.

Notable, the match was the first for the Fighting Scots this year that did not end with at least one team recording a shutout.

Kathryn Ruark of DePauw (8-5-1, 5-0-0 NCAC) buried the game-winner in the 102nd minute. Teammate Bridget Brendza clanged her attempt off the crossbar, but Ruark was there to clean up the play with a rebound goal.

Elizabeth Seewer gave the guests a 1-0 edge in the 26th minute, also putting in a rebound, this time after an initial shot was blocked by a defender.

Wooster (9-5-1, 2-3-0 NCAC) scored its tally just before halftime. Senior Lily Mohre was able to capitalize when the defender marking her slipped, which enabled Mohre to dribble in and fire in the equalizer over the out-stretched arm of the 'keeper.

The Scots nearly pushed ahead in the 84th minute when a loose ball after a free kick was misplayed by a Tiger defender, however, DePauw goalie Riley Riordan was able to scramble in time.

Each team came away with one shot during the first overtime, with Sadie Norton sailing hers high before a save by Carly Eppler on Ruark's chance.

The Tigers finished with a narrow 13-12 edge on shots, and both goalies finished with five saves.

Prior to the match, Wooster honored its seniors as they were making their final home appearance on a Saturday.

The Scots return to the road for a 7 p.m. contest at Ohio Wesleyan University (5-6-2, 0-4-0 NCAC) on Wednesday.
