The College of Wooster women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 shutout to Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Ohio, enabling the Tigers to clinch the fourth and final spot in next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

Wooster entered the day in fifth-place in the NCAC, one point behind fourth-place Wittenberg (10-5-2, 5-2-1 NCAC), meaning the Fighting Scots faced a must-win situation to clinch a spot in the tournament field.

Wittenberg's Kate Burns scored the match's first goal in the 37th minute. The Tigers received an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Julia Smith fed Michelle Brunswick.

Wooster's top offensive opportunities came in the 74th minute. After a save by Scot goalkeeper Carly Eppler, Wooster charged down the field with shots from Liz Kantra and Kennedy Payne, who scored the lone goal in Tuesday's win over Allegheny, turned aside by Wittenberg goalkeeper Maggie Griesser.

Eppler would finish with four saves on the afternoon.

Wittenberg finished with a 14-5 shot advantage and a 4-2 edge on corner kicks.

Wooster's final record of 11-6-2, 4-4-0 NCAC marked a two-win improvement overall from last season. It was the most wins since Wooster had 12 during the 2012 campaign. Wooster's 13 shutouts were one shy of tying the single-season program mark.
