Wooster Captures 11th-Consecutive Home Opener Win with 2-0 Shutout over Mount Union

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team captured a 2-0 victory in its home opener against the University of Mount Union at Carl Dale Field on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Devin Frisby got the Fighting Scots (1-0-0) on the board with a quick first-half unassisted strike in the eighth minute. In what was a physical first half, Wooster managed to outshoot Mount Union (0-1-0) 4-3 as the whistle brought the first half to a close.

Senior goalkeeper Carly Eppler stretches for a save in the second half.

The offense tilted in favor of the Purple Raiders at the start of the second half. Mount Union tallied six corners and 10 shots in the half, but a stout Wooster defense shut the door on any strong scoring chances.

Mount Union nearly got on the board in the 61st minute, but Wooster senior goalkeeper Carly Eppler stretched for a diving save on a back post shot attempt from Mount Union's Hailee Brown, deflecting the ball out of bounds in the process.

In the 68th minute, freshman forward Krenare Rakoci gained control in the box, managing a through ball flick to fellow freshman Krissy Blanchard who chipped it in to secure the insurance goal.

Eppler maintained an active presence in goal, recording two saves on the afternoon.

Mount Union finished with a 13-10 shot advantage and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The win marked Wooster's 11th straight win in its home opener. The last time the Fights Scots lost a home opener was Sept. 3, 2005, as the Scots dropped a 1-0 tally to Manchester University.

Wooster plays Penn State Behrend next as part of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament in Erie, Pa. on Sept. 3 at noon.
