Scots Concede Two, Fall to Penn State Behrend

Claire Davis

The College of Wooster women's soccer team fell behind early and was unable capitalize on promising chances as Penn State Behrend took a 2-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament in Erie, Pa.

After a Wooster (1-1-0) defensive clearance through the Fighting Scots' own end line in the third minute, Penn State Behrend (1-0-0), fresh off a 2015 NCAA Div. III Tournament appearance, capitalized on the resultant corner kick. Behrend's Rachel Weyand delivered the spot kick, bending it pass Wooster senior goalkeeper Carly Eppler for the first goal of the game.

In the 11th minute, Wooster freshman midfielder Claire Davis nearly drew the Scots level, landing a shot on frame and forcing Behrend goalkeeper Mackenzie Troyan to deflect the ball wide for a corner.

Two minutes later, the Lions doubled their advantage as a delivery from Laura Schaefer found the feet of Olivia Belack, who kept it low, placing it in the left corner and into the back of the net.

Eppler kept the Scots in the game, totaling six saves on the afternoon, five of which came in the first half.

The Scots recorded two shots on goal and five total shots.

Wooster will play in the consolation game of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4 against either The College at Brockport or Baldwin Wallace University.
