Scots Fall to No. 15 Ohio Northern in Final Tune-Up Before Conference Opener

Harper Jones

The College of Wooster women's soccer team prepared for its North Coast Athletic Conference opener against No. 15 Ohio Northern University, as goals from three different players propelled the Polar Bears to a 3-0 victory at Kerscher Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Fighting Scots (2-6-1) worked hard throughout the first half as they managed to weather the initial front of a high-powered Ohio Northern (6-0-0) offense.

The home side took the lead in the 35th minute when a combination from Shelby Stephens and Haley Moses helped set up Abbey Oswald for her second goal of the season.

The Polar Bears doubled their advantage seven minutes later after Alyssa Manley headed one in off the rebound of a saved shot from Missy Ward.

Wooster's Kathleen Kalafatis and Emma Lawrence tallied the Scots' only shots on target in the first half, coming in the 22nd and 29th minutes, respectively.

A shot off the crossbar in the 60th minute from sophomore Harper Jones nearly brought the Scots within one, but the resultant rebound was cleared from danger.

A 71st-minute tally would cap the scoring for the Polar Bears as Hailey Martin recorded her first goal of the season on an unassisted strike.

Wooster senior goalkeeper Carly Eppler finished with five saves.

Wooster will look to regain its form in the first game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at Carl Dale Field on Saturday, as the women play host to Hiram College at 1 p.m. to open conference play, before handing the stage over to the men's team at 3:30 p.m.
