Wooster Earns Team Academic Award from NSCAA

Carly Joliat

The College of Wooster women's soccer team earned a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for its outstanding performance in the classroom, the Kansas City, Mo. organization announced on Thursday.

Wooster was one of 577 women's collegiate programs recognized, while the College was one of 221 to have both its men's and women's programs honored. Among its North Coast Athletic Conference peers, Wooster was one of four program with both teams recognized as the Fighting Scots were joined by DePauw University, Kenyon College, and Oberlin College.

Individually, Wooster's collective team grade-point average was boosted by its 2016 alumnae as four of the six seniors graduated with a cumulative mark of at least a 3.50. Among that group, defender Carly Joliat garnered first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, while midfielder Lauren Hancher earned second-team Scholar All-East Region accolades from the NSCAA last fall.

To qualify for the team award, the team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year.
