Scots' Five-Game Unbeaten Streak Ends with 1-0 Loss to DePauw

Krissy Blanchard

The College of Wooster women's soccer team's five-game unbeaten streak came to a close as DePauw University topped the Fighting Scots 1-0 on Saturday evening at Reavis Stadium in Greencastle, Ind.

The difference-maker came in the 40th minute as DePauw's Ali Grimm connected on a strike from 25 yards out along the right side to give the Tigers (8-4-1, 4-1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) the game-winning goal.

The Tigers controlled a majority of the offensive chances in the first half with DePauw outshooting Wooster (4-7-4, 1-1-3 NCAC) 9-1 in the opening 45 minutes.

The Scots bunkered down defensively in the second half, limiting DePauw to five shots in the final period of play.

As Wooster pushed forward looking for the equalizer, the Tigers attacked on the counter often.

Scot goalkeeper Carly Eppler did well to keep Wooster within striking distance, as the senior lunged to make a fingertip save on a driven shot by Bridget Brendza nearly 20 yards out.

Sophomore Caroline Dres and first-year Krissy Blanchard fired back-to-back shots on goal with nearly 10 minutes remaining, but DePauw 'keeper Riley Riordan did well to keep the clean sheet.

Few major offensive chances materialized for either team in the game's closing minutes.

With the loss, Wooster's four-game unbeaten streak in conference play comes to an end.

The Tigers recorded five shots on goal, compared to two from Wooster.

Blanchard, Dres, and sophomore Harper Jones all tallied a shot on the day.

Eppler finished with four saves.

The Scots return to action on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. home match against Ohio Wesleyan University (4-9, 1-3-0 NCAC).
