WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team concluded this season's non-conference slate with a 1-0 defeat to Case Western Reserve University at Carl Dale Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Fighting Scots' (5-8-4, 2-1-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) eight-game home unbeaten streak comes to an end.

Both sides squared off in an offensively-even opening 45 minutes, with each team tallying six shots on the half.

Wooster sophomore Erica White nearly opened the scoring for the Scots with a lofting shot on frame in the 21st minute, only to be denied by a stretch-save from Case Western Reserve goalkeeper Sarah Newcomb.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy Ireton displayed quick reflexes to keep it a clean sheet in the first half as Marly Praprost directed a solid header attempt on frame in the 25th minute off a swung-in ball from the right flank.

Wooster closed the first half with four saves, compared to three by the Spartans (6-5-4, 0-2-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference).

The offensive advantage tipped Case Western's way in the second half as the Spartans outshot the Scots 15-3 in the final 45 minutes.

Jennifer Zajic converted in the 83rd minute after popping up a cut-back cross from teammate Neha Cheemalavagu to loft it over Ireton for the game-winner.

Case outshot Wooster 21-9 on the day while winning the corner kick advantage 5-1.

White and sophomore Harper Jones finished with a team-high three shots.

Ireton finished with 10 saves.

The Scots return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at conference foe Allegheny College (5-8-1, 2-3-0 NCAC) at 7:30 p.m.
