Trio of Sophomores, Headlined by Lawrence, Earns All-NCAC Honors

Emma Lawrence
Harper Jones

Three sophomores from The College of Wooster's women's soccer team each garnered their first career All-North Coast Athletic Conference certificate, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Highlighting the second-year trio was Emma Lawrence, who earned first-team selection honors, followed by Caroline Dres and Harper Jones, who each received honorable mention certificates.

Lawrence started all 19 games this season and solidified her selection with stellar defensive play at center back while generating big chances on the offensive end. The sophomore two-sport athlete (Lacrosse) tallied two assists playing from the Wooster rearguard, delivering the opener in Wooster's 2-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University (Oct. 18) while helping initiate a three-goal Wooster scoring spree with a second-half assist in the Scots' 3-1 win over Hiram (Sept. 24). Lawrence proved herself as a defensive keystone for a young Wooster squad that sported an eight-game home unbeaten streak dating back to the 2015 campaign.

Dres made 18 starts in 19 appearances as a midfielder. After earning valuable time behind an experienced midfield in 2015, the sophomore proved herself as a key offensive contributor with a team-high four goals, three of which came in conference play, including the game-opener off the dish from Lawrence against Ohio Wesleyan (Oct. 18) and an 86th-minute dagger at Kenyon College to salvage a result on the road. With only six appearances as a first-year, the athletic sophomore showed veteran poise on the ball late in games, as three of her four goals came in the 71st minute or later.

After making an immediate impact her first year, Jones excelled in the attacking midfielder role. The sophomore recorded a team-high in points (9) while tying Dres for the team-high in goals with four. Jones' contributions came through at crucial junctions, particularly late in the season, logging game-winners against Muskingum University (Sept. 27), Ohio Wesleyan (Oct. 18), and Allegheny College (Oct. 26), with the latter two putting the Scots in place for a regular-season finale against archrival Wittenberg with conference tournament implications on the line. Jones' lone assist came during Wooster 4-2 defeat at Heidelberg University (Sept. 13).
